Positive deviance: a deviant concept in the study of deviance?

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na problematiku sociálních deviací v sociologickém diskurzu formou teoretické přehledové studie. V první části textu autor stručně představuje historii problematiky sociální deviace s důrazem na proměnu jejího vnímání v rámci sociologie jak zahraniční, tak české. Následuje vymezení a konceptualizace vybraných pojmů (deviace, sociální deviace, deviation, deviance, norma, sociální norma, deviant, delikvent), které jsou důležité pro pochopení konceptu sociální deviace. Práce dále popisuje čtyři základní přístupy, jak lze v sociologii sociální deviaci rozumět, tzv. sociologické koncepce teorií sociální deviace (statistická, absolutistická, normativní a reaktivní). Autor také vytváří dvojdimenzionální klasifikaci existujících sociologických teorií sociální deviace. Druhá část práce se zaměřuje na vymezení pozitivní a negativní sociální deviace v rámci čtyřech základních sociologických koncepcí pojímání sociální deviace, popsaných v části první. Následuje představení nové typologie sociální deviace Alexe Heckerta a Druan Marie Heckertové, která integruje normativní a reaktivní koncepci sociologických teorií sociální deviace a vytváří klasifikaci o čtyřech možných typech sociální deviace, která postihuje některé nedostatky klasických koncepcí a zároveň ustavuje relevantní kategorii pozitivní sociální deviace.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is an overview theoretical work, which focuses on issues of deviance in sociological field of study. The first part briefly introduces the history of deviance concept with focus on sociological framework and his changes in foreign and Czech studies of social deviance over time. Conceptualization of important terms, which are necessary for understanding deviance, follows (deviation, deviance, norm, social norm, deviant, and delinquent). The thesis also describes four basic approaches of how to understand deviance in sociological studies, so called sociological conceptions of theories of deviance (statistical, absolutist, normative, and reactivist). The author of this thesis also creates two-dimensional classification of contemporary theories of deviance. The second part focuses on classification of positive and negative deviance, using four basic sociological conceptions of deviance, which are described in the part one. After that, the introduction of new typology of deviance follows. This new typology was created by Alex Heckert and Druann Maria Heckert and integrates normative and reactivist conceptions of sociological theories of deviance in order to create a four-type classification, which addresses some issues of classical conceptions of deviance and also creates a relevant class of positive deviance.
