Comparison of Financial Literacy of High School Students and People of Retirement Age in the Zlín Region

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá finanční gramotností středoškolských studentů a lidí v penzijním věku ve Zlínském kraji. V České republice i v zahraničí je úroveň finanční gramotnosti obou skupin dlouhodobě podprůměrná. Cílem práce je porovnat znalosti ve finanční oblasti studentů ve věku 15 - 19 let a seniorů žijících ve Zlínském kraji. Obě tyto skupiny jsou v dnešní ekonomice ohroženy z důvodu nízké průměrné mzdy a podprůměrného starobního důchodu ve Zlínském kraji v porovnání s důchody v ostatních krajích České republiky. Práce má také za cíl zjistit a porovnat míru využití finančních produktů studentů a seniorů. Dílčím cílem práce je zjištění rozdílů mezi pohlavími ve finančních znalostech v jednotlivých skupinách. Výzkum proběhl na středních školách a na pobočkách bankovní společnosti ve Zlínském kraji prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření, ve kterém se nacházely převážně znalostní otázky a otázky na využití finančních produktů. Průměr správných odpovědí ve znalostních otázkách studentů byl 51,4 %, u seniorů byl průměr správných odpovědí 42,7 %. Studenti také častěji dosahovali spíše vysokých finančních znalostí než senioři. Statistickým testem Anova byla zjištěna závislost věku respondentů na finančních znalostech respondentů. Dvouvýběrovým t-testem byla potvrzena první hypotéza, že studenti mají větší teoretické znalosti v oblasti financí než lidé v penzijním věku. Druhá a třetí hypotéza byla stanovena dle poznatků z teoretické části práce. Druhá hypotéza, že muži ve skupině studentů mají větší finanční znalosti, než ženy ve skupině studentů byla vyvrácena. Třetí hypotéza, že muži ve skupině seniorů mají větší finanční znalosti, než ženy ve skupině studentů se nepotvrdila. Chí-kvadrát testem nezávislosti byla vyvráceno, že by míra využití finančních produktů závisela na věku. Na základě zjištěné průměrné úrovni finančních znalostí studentů a podprůměrné úrovni finančních znalostí seniorů bylo doporučeno zapojení do programů bankovní společnosti zabývající se finanční edukací. Navrženo bylo poskytnutí seniorům možnost konzultace s finančním specialistou prostřednictvím domova důchodců.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the financial literacy of high school students and people of retirement age in the Zlín region. In the Czech Republic and abroad, the level of financial literacy of both groups is long-term below average. The aim of this work is to compare the knowledge in the financial field of students aged 15-19 and seniors living in the Zlín region. Both of these groups are at risk in today's economy due to the low average wage and below-average old-age pension in the Zlín Region. The work also aims to determine and compare the rate of use of financial products of students and seniors. A partial goal of the work is to find out the differences between the sexes in financial knowledge in individual groups. The research was conducted at secondary schools and at branches of a banking company in the Zlín Region through a questionnaire survey, which included mainly knowledge questions and questions on the use of financial products. The average of correct answers in students' knowledge questions was 51.4%, for seniors the average of correct answers was 42.7%. Students also more often achieved a high level of financial knowledge than seniors. The Anova: single factor determined the dependence of the respondents 'age on the respondents' financial knowledge. The first hypothesis was confirmed by a two-sample t-test that students have more theoretical knowledge in the field of finance than people of retirement age. The second and third hypotheses were determined according to the findings from the theoretical part of the thesis. The second hypothesis that men in a group of students have greater financial knowledge than women in a group of students has been refuted. The third hypothesis that men in the senior group have more financial knowledge than women in the student group has not been confirmed. The chi-square test of independence refuted that the rate of use of the financial products depended on the age. Based on the average level of financial knowledge of students and below-average level of financial knowledge of seniors, participation in the programs of a banking company dealing with financial education was recommended. It was proposed to provide seniors with the opportunity to consult with a financial specialist through a retirement home.
