Financial Situation of Small and Medium Enterprises

Abstract:

The main objective of this diploma work is to analyze the financial situation of a business that falls into the category of small and medium-sized businesses in Slovak Republic. Emphasis is placed on the retrospective financial analysis „ex post,“ i.e. the way business was managing in previous periods, and proposal for the measures to improve the result of the business activities, should the situation take an adverse direction. In its initial phase, the work is focusing on the theoretical definition of small and medium-sized businesses and continues by the characterization of its financial management and intermediate objectives and decisions, which form a part of it. The following section of work introduces the ways the financial resources are being broken down, their constitution and the possible ways of their utilization. Consequently, explains how to evaluate the company's financial situation. These arguments are being used when analyzing the financial position of Building a.s. construction company, as a small business. This part contains the analysis of liquidity, activity, liability and profitability coefficients, which result from the final accounting statements of the company. It also includes the proposed measures which follow up on the actual financial situation within the business. Their objective is to improve it. In conclusion, summarizing all the findings of the investigation and the way the financial situation of the company has developed during years 2008, 2009 and 2010. At the same time it explains all the necessary steps the company must make to achieve long-term positive results.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto diplomovej práce je analýza finančnej situácie podniku z kategórie malých a stredných podnikov SR. Dôraz je kladený na retrospektívnu finančnú analýzu „ex post,“ teda ako podnik hospodáril v predchádzajúcich obdobiach a na návrhy opatrení k zlepšeniu výsledkov podnikateľskej činnosti, ak sa situácia vyvíja negatívnym smerom. V úvodnej fáze sa práca zaoberá teoretickým vymedzením malých a stredných podnikov, pokračuje charakteristikou ich finančného riadenia a čiastkových cieľov a rozhodnutí, ktoré sú jeho súčasťou. Ďalšia časť práce oboznamuje o tom, ako sa členia, čo predstavujú finančné zdroje a aké sú moţnosti ich čerpania. Následne vysvetľuje, ako sa hodnotí finančná situácia podniku. Tieto argumenty sú pouţité pri analýze finančnej situácie stavebnej spoločnosti Building a.s. ako malého podniku. Táto časť obsahuje analýzu ukazovateľov likvidity, aktivity, zadlţenosti a rentability, ktoré vyplývajú z účtovných závierok spoločnosti. Súčasťou sú navrhnuté opatrenia, ktoré nadväzujú na aktuálnu finančnú situáciu a sú zamerané na jej zlepšenie. V závere sú zhrnuté všetky zistené skutočnosti z výskumu, ako sa finančná situácia spoločnosti v priebehu rokov 2008, 2009 a 2010 vyvíjala a zároveň, aké potrebné kroky musí spoločnosť uskutočniť k dosahovaniu dlhodobých pozitívnych výsledkov.
