K rozvoji Intensive Family Preservation Service (IFPS), v českém překladu k Programu k zachování rodiny, došlo v USA během druhé poloviny 20. století. Díky svému krátkodobému a intenzivnímu charakteru se IFPS stala jednou z oblíbených služeb pro rodiny s dětmi. Služba plní preventivní funkci, jejímž cílem je minimalizovat počet odebíraných dětí. Intensive Family Preservation Service (IFPS) was developed in the USA in the second half of the twentieth century. Thanks to its short and intense character, IFPS has become one of the favorite services for families with children.
