Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá obecným tématem malých států v mezinárodních vztazích na případu Velkovévodství lucemburského.Případová studie analyzuje chování Lucemburska jako malého státu ve stanoveném časovém rozpětí od roku 1839 do 60. let 20. století. Práce se soustředí na sedm hlavních etap a předělů v historii Lucemburska: členství v Německé celní unii jako člen a poté jako nečlen Německého spolku, neutralizace Lucemburska, první světová válka a porušení neutrality, členství v Belgicko-lucemburské ekonomické unii, druhá světová válka a členství v Beneluxu a Evropských společenstvích (EU). Hlavním cílem práce je na základě analýzy chování Lucemburska ve stanoveném období formulace závěru, které prvky chování lze označit za obecné prvky chování malého státu v mezinárodních vztazích a které prvky chování byly naopak specifickým případem Velkovévodství lucemburského.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the general topic of small states in international relations based on a case study of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The case study analyses the behaviour of Luxembourg as a small state in international relations from 1839 up to 1960s. It concentrates on seven main periods and phases in the history of this small country - membership in the German Customs Union as a member and as a non-member of the German Confederation, the neutralisation of Luxembourg, WWI and the violation of neutrality, membership in the Belgium-Luxembourg economic union, WWII, and the membership in the Benelux Union and the European Communities. The main aim of this thesis is to come to a conclusion, which aspects of the behaviour of Luxembourg can be described as universal behaviour patterns of small states and which aspects were specific only to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
