The Social Assistant’s Position to Maternity and Parenthood of Mentally Handicapped People

Abstract:

Annotation Title of thesis: The Social Assistant’s Position to Maternity and Parenthood of Mentally Handicapped People Name of author: Erika Bartúnková Leading: Mgr. et Mgr. Jana Čechová Number of words: 13882 Key words: maternity and parenthood, mentally handicapped people, position, assistant, assistance The aim of my thesis was description of social assistant’s position to maternity and parenthood of mentally handicapped people. The position in my work has three main dimensions. The first is cognitive one, which consists of knowledge, opinions and ideas about components of maternity and parenthood of mentally handicapped people. The behavioral dimension consists of practical experiences with assistance to pregnant women with mentally handicap or to her family and of the description of notional realization of this kind of assistance. The last emotional dimension includes all the feelings connected with research target. The qualitative research was done interviewing the assistants. On the basis of my research I can say that the position of assistant is positive, creative and it is based on the real interest in the field of maternity and parenthood of mentally handicapped people. All of them agree that there is necessity to speak about and deal this topic with emphasis to individual approach to client and his/her need, desires and wishes. Assistants also proclaim the high point of special training and education for clients orientated to house care, love, partnership and looking for child. They also spoke about the special educational training for assistants of mentally handicapped people who want to have a partner and children. It is a true that assistants have not the practical experiences with pregnant mentally handicapped women or her family, but they was able to describe the notional assistance.

Anotácia Názov práce: Postoj asistentov k materstvu a rodičovstvu osôb s mentálnym postihnutím Autorka: Erika Bartúnková Vedúca práce: Mgr. et Mgr. Jana Čechová Počet slov: 13882 Kľúčové slová: materstvo a rodičovstvo, osoba s mentálnym postihnutím, postoj, asistent, asistencia Cieľom bakalárskej práce bolo popísať postoj asistentov k problematike materstva a rodičovstva osôb s mentálnym postihnutím. Postoj má v práci tri základné dimenzie. Kognitívna zahrňuje vedomosti, názory a predstavy asistentov o jednotlivých oblastiach materstva a rodičovstva osôb s mentálnym postihnutím. Behaviorálna sa skladá z praktických skúseností výkonu asistencie so ženou s MP alebo v rodine osôb s mentálnym postihnutím a z popisu prípadne vykonávanej asistencie. Posledná, emocionálna, dimenzia je tvorená pocitmi, ktoré asistenti v situáciách spojených s materstvom a rodičovstvom osôb s mentálnym postihnutím prežívali. Výskum bol realizovaný osobnými pološtrukturovanými rozhovormi s asistentmi, ktorí pracujú v chránenom bývaní alebo chránenej dielni. Z výskumu vyplynulo, že postoj týchto pracovníkov je kladný a kreatívny, založený na aktívnom záujme o sledovanú oblasť. Všetci sa zhodli na nutnosti danú oblasť riešiť a pristupovať ku klientovi individuálne v závislosti od jeho konkrétnych potrieb, túžob a prianí. Zároveň asistenti popisovali nutnosť školení a prípravy klientov na partnerský a rodinný život spojený s výchovou dieťaťa a starostlivosťou o domácnosť. Potrebu vzdelávania orientovali aj na asistentov, pretože sami považovali vlastné skúsenosti za nedostačujúce k výkonu asistencie s tehotnou ženou s MP ale v rodine osôb s mentálnym postihnutím.
