The journalistic work of Karel Čapek in the years 1915-1930

Abstract:

Karel Čapek spisovatel, publicista, významný literát první republiky, redaktor Lidových novin a obránce demokracie a občanských svobod. Tak se dá shrnout jeho osobní charakteristika, která se plně odráží v celkové tvorbě Čapka. Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na období let 1915 – 1930, kdy byl nejproduktivnější v oblasti publicistiky, zachycuje také jeho postupné zrání v profesionálního žurnalistu a kulturní osobnost 1. poloviny 20. století. Práce upozorňuje na jeho soudobé i současné kritiky a literáty, kteří se Čapkovým dílem zabývali a zabývají i v současnosti. Práce podtrhuje význam Čapkovy produkce a nadčasovost jeho myšlenek.

Abstract:

Karel Čapek was a notable writer and a journalist in the Czech newspaper Lidové noviny in the years of the first republic of Czechoslovakia during the rule of T. G. Masaryk. Čapek was an important figure as the advocate of democracy and civil rights. The thesis examines the period of 1915 – 1930, when he was the most productive as the journalist, and follows his journalistic progress. There are also reflections of some important critics and writers who were concerned with Čapek’s works in the past or the present time. The thesis emphasizes the significance of Čapek’s works and thoughts.
