Emotional experiencing of elementary school attendance

Abstract:

Tato výzkumná práce se věnuje emočnímu prožívání školní docházky dětí na 1. stupni ZŠ. Studie je zaměřena především na deskripci nejčastěji prožívaných emocí, jejich kategorizaci a zjištění rozdílností v emočním prožívání mezi chlapci a dívkami i jednotlivými ročníky. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo celkem 51 dětí z 2. – 5. třídy. Emoce byly zkoumány metodou volných výpovědí tzv. „Koláčů emocí“. Analýza výsledků ukázala, že žáci 1. stupně ZŠ prožívají přibližně stejně negativních i pozitivních emocí, přičemž chlapci a dívky se v tomto prožívání neliší. Nejčastěji uváděné kategorie negativních emocí byly „neobliba některého školního předmětu“, „strach ze špatné známky“ a „strach ze zkoušení, testů“, u pozitivních emocí se pak jednalo o kategorie „obliba kamarádů, spolužáků“, „obliba některého předmětu“ a „obliba učitele, asistenta pedagoga“. Dále bylo prokázáno, že žáci nižších ročníků (2. a 3. třída) prožívají méně pozitivních emocí, než žáci ročníků vyšších (4. a 5. třída). V závěru práce jsou tyto výsledky zasazeny do kontextu dalších studií, zároveň jsou nastíněny limity studie a návrhy pro další výzkumy.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the emotional experiencing of elementary school attendance. The focus of the thesis is primarily on the description of the most frequently experienced emotions, their categorization and finding possible differences in emotional experiencing between boys and girls, and among respective grades. The research included 51 children from 2nd to 5th grades. Emotions were examined by a method called “Pie-charts of emotions”. The analysis of the results showed that elementary school students experienced about as much negative as positive emotions with no difference in the emotional experiencing between boys and girls. The most commonly referred categories of negative emotions were “the unpopularity of some school subject”, “fear of bad marks” and “fear of examination or tests”. For positive emotions, the most commonly referred categories were the “friendship of classmates”, “the interest in some school subject”, and the “popularity of a teacher or teaching assistant”. It was also proven that the students of lower grades (2nd and 3rd grades) are experiencing less positive emotions than the students of higher grades (4th and 5th grades). In the conclusion of the thesis, the results are set in the context of other studies, and the limits of the study and proposals for further research are outlined.
