Analysis of the Discourse on China among Parliamentary Political Parties in the Czech Republic between 2006 - 2012

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je podrobnější analýza postojů vůči Číně u relevantních politických stran v České republice v období let 2006 - 2012. Jedná se o empiricky orientovaný kvalitativní výzkum postavený na analýze dokumentů získaných z oficiálních webových stránek zkoumaných politických stran (ČSSD, KDU-ČSL, KSČM, ODS, SZ, TOP09 a VV) a doplněný o informace získané přímo od zástupců politických stran formou písemných odpovědí na zaslaný soubor otevřených otázek. Postoje k Číně jsou analyzovány na základě identifikace témat a argumentačních a rétorických strategií veřejného i poloveřejného diskurzu výše uvedených kolektivních aktérů. Dále jsou sledovány podobnosti či rozdíly mezi stranami napříč politickým spektrem, souvislosti s vnitropolitickou situací v České republice a širším zahraničněpolitickým diskurzem a ideologickým základem jednotlivých stran.

Abstract:

In my thesis, I provide a detailed analysis of attitudes towards China on the part of relevant political parties in the Czech Republic in 2006 – 2012. I conduct an empirically oriented qualitative research based on the analysis of documents acquired from official websites of the explored political parties (ČSSD, KDU-ČSL, KSČM, ODS, TOP09 and VV) supplemented by information obtained directly from representatives of the political parties in the form of written replies to a set of open questions. The attitudes towards China are analysed on the basis of the identification of the themes as well as argumentation and rhetorical strategies of the public and semi-public discourse of the above mentioned collective actors. Further on, I follow the similarities and differences between political parties across the political spectrum as well as the context of internal affairs in the Czech Republic, the wider foreign-political discourse and the ideological basis of the individual parties.
