Antisocial behavior of adolescents and its relation to personality traits and to self-esteem

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá antisociálním chováním adolescentů a jeho vztahem k rysům osobnosti a k sebehodnocení. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, zda antisociální chování s uvedenými psychologickými proměnnými souvisí a zda se tyto vztahy liší z hlediska pohlaví. Teoretická část práce pojednává o problematice antisociálního chování v kontextu nejnovějších poznatků jako o normativní součásti vývoje adolescentů. Dále se věnuje konceptům osobnosti a sebehodnocení. Empirická část práce je věnována samotnému výzkumnému šetření. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 771 studentů 1. a 2. ročníků brněnských středních škol ve věku 15 až 17 let. Pro sběr dat byly použity tři standardizované metody ve formě dotazníku - Škála antisociálního chování z dotazníku SAHA (The Social and Health Assessment), pětifaktorový osobnostní inventář NEO-FFI a Škála sebepřijetí a kompetentnosti SLCS-R. V našem souboru adolescentů bylo zjištěno, že pro celý soubor antisociální chování nejkonzistentněji souvisí s Přívětivostí, Svědomitostí a Otevřeností vůči zkušenosti. U dívek byla prokázána souvislost antisociálního chování s rysy Přívětivost, Svědomitost, Extraverze a Otevřenost vůči zkušenosti. U chlapců byl nalezen vztah mezi antisociálním chováním a rysy Přívětivost, Otevřenost vůči zkušenosti a Svědomitost. Druhá část práce byla věnována vztahu antisociálního chování a sebehodnocení. Korelační analýzou provedenou pro celý soubor byl zjištěn pozitivní vztah mezi sebehodnocením a násilným chováním. V analýzách provedených zvlášť pro chlapce a pro dívky tento vztah potvrzen nebyl. U chlapců sebehodnocení negativně souviselo pouze s majetkovými delikty a u dívek mezi sebehodnocením a antisociálním chováním statisticky významný vztah nalezen nebyl.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with antisocial behavior of adolescents and its relation to personality traits and to self-esteem. The main goal of the thesis was to find out, whether the antisocial behavior is related to stated psychological terms or not and if the relations change according to sex. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with an issue of antisocial behavior as a normative part of adolescent development. Futher it is devoted to the concept of personality and self-esteem. The empirical part of the thesis is devoted to the research results. The research group consisted from 771 students in the age from 15 to 17 and they were from 1st and 2nd years of the secondary schools in Brno. There were 3 standardized methods used to obtain data - antisocial behavior scale from the SAHA questionnaire (The Social and Health Assesment), NEO-FFI questionnaire and The Self-Liking/Self-Competence Scale – Revised Version (SLCS-R). There was found out that antisocial behavior is most consistently associated with Agreeableness, Conscientiousness and Openness to experience among adolescents in our research group. Among girls there was found a connection between antisocial behavior and Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion and Openness to experience. Among boys there was found signifiant relationship between antisocial behavior and Agreeableness, Openness to experience and Conscientiousness. The second part of the thesis was dedicated to the relation between antisocial behavior and self-esteem. By correlation analysis there was proved positive relationship between self-esteem and violent behavior among the whole research group. According to analyses, made separately for boys and girl, this relation was not confirmed. Self-esteem among boys was negatively related to property offences and among girls there was not found any significant relationship between self-esteem and antisocial behavior.
