Effect of selenium in the diet of laying hens on quantitative and qualitative parameters of laying

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá významem selenu ve výživě hospodářských zvířat, se zaměřením na nosnice produkující konzumní vejce. Součástí této práce je pokus, v němž byl zkoumán vliv suplementovaného selenu v dietě nosnic na vybrané kvantitativní a kvalitativní parametry snášky. Do pokusu s délkou trvání 8 týdnů a to od 33. do 41. týden věku nosnic, bylo zařazeno celkem 42 kusů nosnic hybridní kombinace Lohman Brown-Classic, které byly rozděleny na dvě skupiny, kontrolní (n=21) a pokusnou (n=21). Dieta kontrolní skupiny obsahovala pouze selen přirozeně se vyskytující množství a to 158,06 µg/kg. Do diety pokusné skupiny byl suplementován selen v anorganické formě seleničitanu sodném (Na2SeO3). Přirozeně se vyskytující obsah selenu byl tedy navýšen na 531,41 µg/kg. Z uvedených výsledků je patrné, že suplementace seleničitanu sodného vedla ke statisticky průkaznému (P<0,05) zvýšení obsahu selenu a aktivity GSH-Px v krevní plazmě nosnic. Aktivita GSH-Px byla o 72 % vyšší v porovnání se skupinou kontrolní. Rovněž byl u pokusné skupiny statisticky prokázán (P<0,05) vyšší obsah selenu v krvi, srdeční a jaterní tkáni, prsní svalovině, a také vaječném žloutku a bílku. Vliv suplementovaného selenu na sledované produkční parametry, včetně konverze krmiva, nebyl statisticky průkazný (P>0,05) podobě jako v případě kvantitativních a kvalitativních parametrů vajec.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the importance of selenium in livestock nutrition, with focusing on laying hens. The aim of the experiment which is a part of the thesis was to evaluate the effect of selenium supplementation into the laying hens diet on their quantitative and qualitative parameters. Total of 42 laying hens of the Lohman Brown-Classic were included in the 8-week experiment from 33rd to 41st weeks of age. Laying hens were divided into two groups, control (n = 21) and experimental (n = 21). The diet of the control group contained only naturally occurring selenium, particular 158.06 µg/kg. Selenium in inorganic form of sodium selenite (Na2SeO3) was supplemented to the diet of the experimental group. The naturally occurring selenium content was increased to 531.41 µg/kg. These results show that sodium selenite supplementation led to a statistically significant (P<0.05) increase in selenium content and GSH-Px activity in the blood plasma of laying hens. GSH-Px activity was 72% higher compared to the control group. The experimental group also showed statistically significant (<0.05) higher levels of selenium in the blood, heart and liver tissue, breast muscle and also egg yolk and egg white. The effect of supplemented selenium on the monitored production parameters, including feed conversion, was not statistically significant (P>0.05) in the form as in the case of quantitative and qualitative parameters of eggs.
