Abstract:

Festival Ars Electronica, s podtitulem festival pro umění, technologie a společnost, je nejdéle probíhajícím festivalem umění nových médií. Diplomová práce se věnuje vzniku, vývoji a fungování festivalu Ars Electronica jako kulturní události. Cílem předkládané diplomové práce je odpovědět na otázku, co umožnilo, že se festival Ars Electronica stal nejdéle kontinuálně probíhajícím festivalem umění nových médií. Za tímto účelem sledujeme především geopolitické, ekonomické a společensko-kulturní podmínky a okolnosti vzniku, historického vývoje a fungování festivalu v období mezi lety 1979 až 2012. Metoda práce je inspirována přístupy tzv. nové filmové historie a archeologie médií, které nahlížíme jako odvozené z metodologické práce Michela Foucaulta. Vedle sekundární literatury se důležitým zdrojem informací staly archivní prameny, pocházející z archivu města Linz a z archivu Ars Electronica.

Abstract:

Ars Electronica Festival, subtitled festival for art, technology and society, is the longest continuously running festival for new media art. The Master´s thesis is devoted to the foundation, development and functioning of the Ars Electronica Festival as a cultural event. The aim of this thesis is to answer the question, what allowed the Ars Electronica Festival became the longest continuously running festival of new media art. For this end, we study especially geopolitical, economic and socio-cultural conditions and circumstances of origin, historical development and functioning of the Festival during the period between 1979 and 2012. The method of work is inspired by the approaches of so-called New Film History and Media Archaeology, which we view as derived from the methodological work of Michel Foucault. In addition to the secondary literature, as an important source of information are archival sources from the Archive of the city of Linz and the Ars Electronica Archive.
