Public Communication of Music and Cultural Institutions in the Context of Growing Social Polarisation in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. A managerial-production perspective.

Abstract:

Rostoucí podpora extremistických nálad ve společnosti se v posledních letech pro největší kulturní instituce na Slovensku a v České republice stala výzvou. Veřejná podpora polarizujících témat (válka na Ukrajině, podpora práv LGTBQ+ komunity, očkování atd.) vytváří pro umělecké instituce nové výzvy, jelikož se stávají terčem nenávistných reakcí svého publika. Cílem této práce je zmapovat komunikaci největších hudebních a kulturních institucí na Slovensku a v České republice o společensky polarizujících tématech a analyzovat komunikační strategie reagující na negativní odezvy části publika. Metodami výzkumu jsou desk research, obsahová analýza a polostrukturované kvalitativní rozhovory s pracovníky největších slovenských a českých uměleckých institucí, kteří mají na starosti komunikaci.

Abstract:

The growing support for extremist movements in society has in recent years become a challenge for the largest cultural institutions in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Public support for polarizing issues (the war in Ukraine, support for the rights of the LGTBQ+ community, vaccination, etc.) creates new challenges for art institutions as they become the target of hateful reactions from their audiences. The research aim of this thesis is to map the communication of the largest music and cultural institutions in Slovakia and the Czech Republic on socially polarizing topics and to analyze the communication strategies responding to the negative responses of a part of the public. The research methods are desk research, content analysis and semi-structured qualitative interviews with employees of the largest Slovak and Czech art institutions who are responsible for communication.
