The Perception of traveling by Rail Transport amongst Generation Z in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá vnímání železniční dopravy při cestování Generace Z v rámci České republiky. Jejím hlavním cílem je odhalení potenciálu a bariér cestování vlakem u této generace. V teoretické části je popsána železniční doprava, je zde uvedeno srovnání s ostatními druhy dopravy a také porovnání nabídky služeb na železnici. Je zde definována Generace Z, popsáno její spotřebitelské chování a trendy při cestování. Výzkum v praktické části je rozdělen do dvou fází. První jsou hloubkové rozhovory, pomocí kterých jsou stanoveny teze a otázky pro druhou fázi výzkumu – dotazníkové šetření. Z výsledků vyplývá, že největší potenciál železniční dopravy spočívá v jejím pohodlí a naopak mezi bariéry se řadí dostupnost, rychlost a také propagace tohoto druhu dopravy. Výstupem je několik návrhů řešení, která rozvíjí potenciál této dopravy či naopak odstraňují její bariéry, a která mohou být nápomocná pro železniční dopravce ale i organizátory této dopravy. Mezi ně patří investice do vozového parku, větší spolupráce v rámci odvětví cestovního ruchu, zlepšení dostupnosti či zlepšení marketingu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the perception of rail transport amongst Generation Z in the Czech Republic. The aim of the theses is to identify the potential and actual barriers of traveling by rail transport amongst Generation Z. The theoretical part describes the rail transport, there is a comparison with other modes of transport and also of the services which are offered. Generation Z is defined here and its consumer behaviour and trends in traveling are described. The research is divided into two phases. Phase One - in-depth interviews, these are used to determine the theses and questions for Phase Two – the questionnaire. The results show that the biggest potential of rail transport consists in its comfort and, reversely, the barriers include accessibility, speed and also the promotion of this mode of transport. The output is several recommendations for the development of potential and, conversely, removal of its barriers. These recommendations could be helpful for train operators and rail transport organizers. Covering investments to train fleet, better cooperation within the tourism industry, improved accessibility and improved and focussed marketing.
