The Status of Woman in Islamic Society - Selected Aspects Focusing on Indonesia and Saudi Arabia

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá komparací postavení žen v muslimské společnosti na modelovém případu Indonésie a Saúdské Arábie. V teoretické části popisuje základy islámského náboženství a práva, jeho zvyky, a postupně ukazuje rozdíly v jeho vnímání ve dvou islámských společnostech. Vyhodnocením a porovnáním identifikuje základní rozdíly v postavení žen v obou společnostech, možnosti uplatnění v jednotlivých etapách života, jejich vnímáním ze strany společnosti, a možností změn jejich statusů jak ze strany žen, tak i ze strany společnosti, ve které žijí i díky její postupné liberalizaci. Závěr práce se věnuje sílícím aktivistickým hnutím za ženská práva a za zlepšení jejich postavení nejen v rodinném, ale i společenském postavení.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis compares the status of women in Muslim society using Indonesia and Saudi Arabia as a model case. The theoretical part describes the basics of Islamic religion and law, its customs, and gradually shows the differences in its perception in the two Islamic societies. By evaluating and comparing, it identifies the basic differences in the status of women in the two societies, the opportunities for women in each stage of their lives, their perceptions by society, and the possibilities for changes in their statuses both by women and by the society in which they live and by its gradual liberalization. The thesis concludes with an examination of the growing activist movements for women's rights and for the improvement of their status not only in the family but also in society.
