Child with disability and its impact on parents relationship

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na dynamiku partnerských vztahů, ve kterých je vychováváno dítě se zdravotním postižením. Cílem práce bylo porovnat a co nejdetailněji zmapovat vztah před a po narození dítěte, popsat změny, které spolu s příchodem dítěte s handicapem nastaly. Co se týče zdravotního postižení, konkrétně byly vybrány páry, kterým se narodilo dítě s dětskou mozkovou obrnou a těžkou či středně těžkou mentální retardací. U všech dětí se však vyskytují i další přidružená onemocnění. V první, teoretické části bakalářské práce jsou s pomocí odborné literatury vysvětleny základní pojmy, definice a znalosti nezbytné pro porozumění zvolené tématice. Empirická část práce prezentuje kvalitativní výzkumnou studii provedenou na vzorku tří párů. Data byla sbírána pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů, které se zaměřovaly na emoce a potřeby obou partnerů, komunikaci, intimitu, volný čas, den-ní režim a budoucnost. Rodiče dětí byli požádáni, aby všechny tyto aspekty popsali ve vztahu před dítětem a po dítěti. Rozhovory též obsahovaly popis procesu vyrovnávání se s diagnózou dítěte v kontextu partnerského vztahu. Data získaná v rozhovorech byla následně analyzována a interpretována s využitím interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy. Příběhy a žité zkušenosti párů byly specifické a individuální, hlavní shody a rozdíly jsou shrnuty v části práce nazvané výsledky výzkumného šetření.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the dynamics of partners’ relationships in which a child with disabilities is raised. The aim of the thesis was to compare the relationship before and after the birth of the child, to describe the changes that occurred with the arrival of the child with disabilities. In terms of disability, couples who had a child born with cerebral palsy and severe or moderate mental retardation were chosen. All the children also had other associated diseases. In the first, theoretical part of the bachelor's thesis, the basic concepts, definitions and knowledge necessary for understanding the chosen topic are explained with the help of the literature. The empirical part of the thesis presents a qualitative re-search study conducted on a sample of three couples. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews that focused on the emotions and needs of partners, communication, intimacy, leisure time, daily routines and future. Both parents of the child were asked to describe all these aspects in the relationship before and after the child. The interviews also included a description of the process of coping with the child's diagnosis in the context of the partner relationship. The data obtained in the interviews were then analysed and interpreted. Couples' stories and lived experiences were specific and individual, the main commonalities and differences are summarised in the result section of the thesis.
