Norway and Switzerland: their position within the integration process in Europe

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá postavením Norska a Švýcarska v rámci integračních procesů v Evropě. Jsou uvedeny důvody, proč se tak bohaté a vyspělé země doposud nestaly členy Evropské unie. Dále je zmíněno ESVO (Evropské sdružení volného obchodu), mezivládní organizace, která v současné době spojuje Norsko, Švýcarsko, Island a Lichtenštejnsko. Je také popsán vztah Norska a Švýcarska s EU. Co se týče Norska, tak je to zejména Dohoda o Evropském hospodářském prostoru, která mu upravuje vztahy s EU. V případě Švýcarska se jedná především o Bilaterální dohody I a II. Společné pro obě země je členství v Schengenu.

Abstract:

The main objective of this thesis is to clarify the position of Norway and Switzerland within the integration process in Europe. There are pointed out the reasons, why such wealthy and developed countries aren't the members of the European Union. EFTA (European Free Trade Agreement) is also mentioned there. It's an intergovernmental organisation, which connects Norway, Switzerland, Island and Liechtenstein nowadays. The relationship between Norway and Switzerland and the European Union is also defined there. Concerning Norway we speak about the EEA Agreement (European Economic Area). The relations between Switzerland and the European Union are governed by a whole structure of bilateral agreements. Both countries are also the Schengen member states.
