The effect of emotional attachment and parenting on fear of death in middle adulthood

Abstract:

Tato práce si klade za cíl zmapovat citovou vazbu ve střední dospělosti a zjistit, jakou má tato proměnná a dále proměnná rodičovství souvislost s prožíváním strachu ze smrti ve střední dospělosti v jeho jednotlivých dimenzích (strach z vlastní smrti, strach z vlastního umírání, strach ze smrti druhých, strach z umírání druhých). Dalším cílem práce je zjistit, zda existují odlišnosti mezi danými souvislostmi ve střední do-spělosti a jinými fázemi dospělosti. Výzkum byl realizován na vzorku 204 participantů ve věku 18 – 70 let. Citová vazba v dimenzích „úzkostnosti“ a „vyhýbavosti“ byla zjišťovány metodou „ECR-RS“, k měření strachu ze smrti byla použita metoda „FODS“. Mezi „úzkostností“, „vyhýbavostí“ a „rodičovstvím“ a prožívaným strachem ze smrti nebyl nalezen vztah, rovněž nebyly zjištěny rozdílné trendy mezi danými souvislostmi u respondentů ve střední dospělosti a u respondentů jiných věkových kategorií. „Úzkostnost“ se ukázala být statisticky významným prediktorem prožívané míry strachu ze smrti v jeho jednotlivých dimenzích v modelu, kde je proměnná věk kontrolována jako kontinuální proměnná. Signifikantní byla rovněž interakce rodičovství s věkem ve vlivu na strach z vlastního umírání i z umírání druhých a negativní interakce byla zjištěna mezi „vyhýbavostí“ a mírou prožívaného strachu z vlastní smrti při kontrole věku jako kontinuální proměnné. V závěrečné části práce jsou diskutované výsledky v souladu s dalšími výzkumy, možná vysvětlení, limity a případné další náměty pro další výzkumy

Abstract:

The aim of this study is first to chart the attachment in middle adulthood and to find out how these charactersitics and the parenting influence fear of death in middle adulthood in its various dimensions (the fear of his own death, the fear of his own dying, the fear of deaht of others, the fear of others dying) The second aim of this study is to find out if there are differences between the given context in middle adulthood and in other age periods. The research was carried out by a questionnaire survey among 204 respondents aged 18 – 70 years. The attachment was assessed by „ECR-RS“method, for measuring fear of death was used „FODS“method. Between the „avoidance“, the „anxiety“ and the „parentig“and the fear of death did not appear to be any connections , also diverging trends between the given context in middle adulhood and among other age groups werent found. The results show that the „anxiety“ is statisticaly signifiant predict of the fear of death in its particular dimensions in the model, where variable age is controled as a continuous variable. Also significant was the interaction of parenting with age and its effect on the fear of his own dying and the dying of others, the negative interaction was found between the "avoidance" and the fear of his own death in the model, which is controlled by the variable age as a continuous variable. In the final part of this thesis the results are discussed in connection with the previous studies, potential interpretation, limits of research and future research implications.
