Gender socialization of preschool age children.

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem mého výzkumu je analyzovat vliv sekundárních skupin a mocensky významnějších jedinců na vytváření genderových identit u dětí. Pomocí otevřeného nezúčastněného pozorování v přirozeném prostředí třídy mateřské školy jsem identifikovala témata, v rámci kterých bylo možné pozorovat, jak je dětmi gender vytvářen a praktikován. Ve všech těchto oblastech bylo téměř zcela potvrzeno, že mateřská škola podporuje tradiční genderové stereotypy, které jsou produkovány zejména učitelkami, ale i samotnou volnou hrou dětí a jejich interakcemi.

Abstract:

The main target of my research is to analyze the influence of secondary groups and more powerful persons that create children?s gender identities. Through the overt nonparticipant observation in the natural environment of the kindergarten class I identified themes within them it was possible to watch how the gender is made and practiced by the children. In all of these spheres of research it was nearly always confirmed that kindergarten supports the traditional gender stereotypes produced mainly by teachers, but even by free playing of children and by their interactions.
