Architecture of Neoclassicism in the Town of Litoměřice and its Echoes 1800-1870: From the Master-mason to the Building Contractor

Abstract:

Předkládaná disertační práce je zaměřena na klasicistní architekturu a stavitelství v severočeském městě Litoměřice v letech 1800-1870. Na základě studia písemných a plánových podkladů se věnuje urbanistickému vývoji města v daném období a proměnám stavebního fondu. Podrobná analýza dochované plánové dokumentace umožnila poznání proměn jak veřejných budov, především úředních a školských, tak městských domů v procesu přechodu k nájemnímu bydlení. Práce se podrobně zabývá také širším dobovým kontextem, zahrnujícím proměny legislativy regulující stavební produkci a dopad stavebních řádů na podobu staveb, dále změny ve vzdělávání ve stavební profesi, především přechod od školení řemeslníků v cechu ke studiu na technických školách.

Abstract:

The proposed dissertation aims at the neoclassical architecture and construction in the north Bohemian town of Litoměřice in 1800-1870. Urban development of this town and the changes of its building capacity are reviewed on the base of the written evidence and the plan archives. Detailed analysis of preserved planning documentation enabled the recognition of the transformation of not only public buildings, mainly offices and schools, but also of the town houses in the conversion process to rental flats. The thesis also concern wider context of the period, including the legislation regulating the building production and the impact of the building acts on the buildings' appearance, and changes in the education of the building profession, mainly the changeover from the training of the craftsmen in the guild to the study on a technical college.
