Financial literacy of medical students

Abstract:

V současné době dochází k větší dostupnosti různých finančních, úvěrových a jiných nástrojů ze strany nejen bankovních institucí, které cílí na mladou společnost. Mladí lidé jsou vystavováni stále častěji mnohem komplexnějším finančním rozhodnutím, než byly vystavováni jejich rodiče. Složitější finanční rozhodnutí mohou představovat potenciální riziko pro společnost a ekonomiku. Cílem bakalářské práce je vyhodnotit finanční gramotnost studentů prvních ročníku Vyšší odborné školy zdravotnické a prvních až čtvrtých ročníků Střední školy zdravotnické, dále zjistit jaké faktory mohou ovlivnit finanční gramotnost studentů. Data byla sesbírána v rámci kvantitativního šetření pomocí standardizovaného testu a dotazníku. Většina zkoumaných faktorů se ukázala statisticky nevýznamná, mezi významně korelující s finanční gramotností, patří faktor vztahu k penězům. Největším přínosem této bakalářské práce je zjištění o povědomí finanční gramotnosti studentů zdravotnické školy a tato zjištění mohou přispět především vyučujícím ekonomických předmětů, které se mohou zaměřit na zmíněné slabé stránky finanční gramotnosti studentů.

Abstract:

Nowadays, there is greater availability of various financial, credit, and other instruments by institutions other than banks targeting young people. Young people are increasingly exposed to much more complex financial decisions than their parents were. More complex financial decisions can pose a potential risk to society and the economy. The purpose of this bachelor's thesis is to evaluate the financial literacy of first-year students at the Higher Vocational School of Health and first to fourth-year students at the Secondary School of Health, as well as to determine what factors may influence students' financial literacy. The data was collected in a quantitative survey using a standardized test and questionnaire. Most of the factors examined were found to be statistically insignificant, with the factor of relationship with money being significantly correlated with financial literacy. The greatest contribution of this bachelor's thesis is the findings on the awareness of financial literacy among medical school students and these findings can be of particular help to teachers of economics courses who can address the aforementioned weaknesses in students' financial literacy.
