Statistical analysis and multidimensional methods in MS Excel

Abstract:

Výstupem této práce je aplikace v MS Excel, která umožňuje zpracování vybraných statistických testů, které se objevují v předmětech statistické metody 1 a statistické metody 2 na VŠE v Praze tak, aby byl vidět postup výpočtu všech úloh a dokáže sám navrhnout vhodný test pro dané zadání. Touto aplikací je soubor Stat_pomocnik.xlsm. Aplikace umožňuje řešení úloh pomocí vybraných testů a metod jednorozměrné analýzy kvantitativní proměnné, jednorozměrné analýzy kvalitativní proměnné, dvourozměrné analýzy kvantitativních proměnných, dvourozměrné analýzy kvalitativních proměnných, dvourozměrné analýzy kvalitativní a kvantitativní proměnné, vícerozměrné analýzy kvalitativních proměnných a vícerozměrné analýzy kvalitativní a kvantitativní proměnné. Konkrétně to je popisná statistika kvantitativní proměnné, popisná statistika kvalitativní proměnné, jednovýběrový t-test, test o parametru π alternativního rozdělení, Kolmogoro-Smirnovův test, korelační analýza, regresní analýza, celkový F-test, dílčí t-testy, McNemarův test, chí-kvadrát test nezávislosti v kontingenční tabulce, Fisherův exaktní test, párový t-test, Wilcoxonův test, dvouvýběrový t-test, Mann-Whitneyův test, Cochranův test, Friedmanův test, analýza rozptylu (ANOVA), Bartlettův test a Kruskal-Wallisův test. Pro aplikaci testů se v souboru využívají vzorce typu R1C1, vzorce typu Array, formuláře, makra a vlastní kód ve VBA. Soubor se dá používat ve verzích MS Excel 365. Aplikace se dá využít hlavně jako pomůcka při výuce statistických metod, jelikož explicitně ukazuje celý postup výpočtu, což jí odlišuje od ostatních statistických aplikací. Funguje tak, že se vloží soubor dat do souboru, dále se vyberou proměnné, které jsou předmětem analýzy a vybere se tlačítko ‘Automatický výběr testu’. Aplikace poté navrhne vhodný test na základě zvolených proměnných, zdůvodní svoji volbu a vygeneruje výstup daného testu. Mimo souboru Stat_pomocnik.xlsm je součástí této práce také textový soubor obsahující popis všech vybraných metod a ukázka všech testů v souboru a popis, jak je spustit.

Abstract:

The outcome of this thesis is a MS Excel application which enables us to process certain statistical tests which can be found in courses Statistical methods 1 and Statistical methods 2 at Prague University of Economics and Business in a way so that the progress of each problem can be seen and also the application can suggest suitable test for any variety of instructions. This application is called Stat_pomocnik.xlsm. This application allows solving problems using certain tests and methods of one-dimensional analysis of quantitative measure, one-dimensional analysis of qualitative measure, two-dimensional analysis of quantitative measures, two-dimensional analysis of qualitative measures, two-dimensional analysis of qualitative and quantitative measures, multidimensional analysis of qualitative measures and multidimensional analysis of qualitative and quantitative measures. Specifically, it is descriptive statistics of quantitative measure, descriptive statistics of qualitative measure, the independent samples t-test, test of parameter π in alternative distribution, Kolmogoro–Smirnov test, Correlation analysis, regression analysis, complete F-test, partial t-tests, McNemar's test, chi square test of independence in contingency table, Fisher’s exact test, paired t-test, Wilcoxon test, two-sample t-test, Mann–Whitney test, Cochran test, Friedman test, Analysis of variance (ANOVA), Barlett’s test and Kruskal–Wallis test. For application of tests, the used formulas are type R1C1, Array formulas, forms, macros and custom code in VBA. File can be used in version MS Excel 365. Application can be used mainly as teaching aid of statistical methods because it explicitly shows the entire calculation progress which is what differs it from other statistical applications. It functions on principle that the data set is put into the file, the measures, which are the subjects of analysis, are chosen and the button “Automatic choice of test” is pressed. The application then suggests suitable test on the basis of the chosen measures, justifies its choice and generates the outcome of the test. Part of this thesis is also text file containing descriptions of chosen methods and demonstrations of all the tests in file Stat_pomocnik.xlsm and instructions how to run the application.
