Economic comparison of grass seed and winter wheat production under conventional and organic farming

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá ekonomickým srovnáním produkce ozimé pšenice a osiv trav v rámci konvenčního a ekologického systému hospodaření. Mezi sledované trávy v této práci patří jílek mnohokvětý italský, jílek vytrvalý, srha laločnatá, bojínek luční a kostřava rákosovitá. První část práce se zabývá biologií jednotlivých druhů a agrotechnikou jejich pěstování v obou sledovaných systémech hospodaření. Součástí práce je též porovnání současného stavu konvenčního a ekologického zemědělství jako takového, jejich platné legislativy a srovnání stavu travního semenářství v těchto oborech. Teoretická část též obsahuje externality produkce a popis hlavních chorob a škůdců sledovaných trav. V metodické části je popsán způsob získání dat a stručný popis subjektů, které tyto data poskytly. Dále jsou zde uvedeny způsoby ocenění hlavního a vedlejšího produktu a následný výpočet tržeb, nákladů, příspěvku na úhradu a hrubé rentability. Práce porovnává ekonomickou otázku bez započtených dotací, ale i se započtenými dotacemi. Konvenční semenářské trávy a konvenční pšenice dosahují obecně vyššího příspěvku na úhradu fixních nákladů. Nejvyšší rentabilitu nabízejí ekologické množitelské porosty trav a ekologická pšenice. Práce dále formuluje, v jakých případech by se podnik měl spíše soustředit na rentabilitu a v jakých případech spíše na příspěvek na úhradu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the economic comparison of winter wheat and grass seed production under conventional and organic farming systems. The grasses studied in this thesis include italian ryegrass, perennial ryegrass, cock’s foot (orchard grass), timothy and tall fescue. The first part of the thesis deals with the biology of each species and their management. The work also includes a comparison of the current state of conventional and organic agriculture as such, differences in legislation and a comparison of the state of grass seed production. The theoretical part also includes production externalities and a description of the main diseases and pests of the studied grasses. The methodological part describes how the data were obtained and a brief description of the subjects that provided the data. The methods of valuing the main and by-product and the subsequent calculation of sales, costs, contribution margin and gross profitability are also presented. The paper compares the economy of grass seed production without and with the subsidies. Conventional seed grasses and conventional wheat generally have a higher contribution margin. Organic seed grasses and organic wheat offer the highest gross profitability. The paper goes on to formulate in which cases the enterprise should focus more on gross profitability or on the contribution margin.
