A dictator´s portrait in Alejo Carpentier´s The Recourse to the Method

Abstract:

The objective of the thesis was to focus on the dictator depicted by a Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier in his novel The Recourse to the Method (1974). First we described the dictatorship in Cuba, which used to be a shelter for the writer himself for many years throughout the historic spectrum of the country from discovery of the land by the Spanish up to nowadays. After outlining the reasons, course and consequences of the authoritative regimes in Latin America we focused in the second part on the novel itself, to which the thesis is devoted. Next si analysis of the personality of the dictator in Carpentier´s work. Abstract:

Záměrem této práce bylo soustředit se na diktátora, kterého ztvárnil kubánský autor Alejo Carpentier ve svém románu Náprava dle metody (1974). Jako první jsme popsali diktaturu na Kubě, která byla útočištěm řadu let pro samotného autora napříč historickým spektrem země od objevení země Španěly až po současnost. Po nastínění, v čem spočívají příčiny, průběh a následky autoritativních režimů v Latinské Americe, jsme se v druhé části zabývali samotným románem, kterému je věnována tato práce. Následovala analýza osobnosti diktátora v Carpentierově díle. Po rozboru hlavní postavy byla provedena komparace postav literárních diktátorů u jednotlivých latinskoamerických autorů, kteří se věnují této problematice. Rovněž jsme shrnuli tvorbu a život samotného autora románu.
