Progress and Harmony for Mankind? EXPO 1970 Ósaka Exhibition, its Significance and Responses

Abstract:

Master’s thesis aims at more complex processing of Expo 1970 in Osaka. The reader is introduced to the Japanese context and circumstances of the creation, which then are interconnected with participation of Czechoslovakia. The position and meaning of Expo in Osaka is declared based on the placement in history and development of world’s exhibitions. In the case of participation of Czechoslovakia, the aim of this work is to become more familiar with factors of its origin, which were significantly affected by the events of August 1968, what was subsequently reflected not only in its form and tone, but also in the reactions in press and fates of its creators.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práca si kladie za cieľ komplexnejšie spracovať Expo 1970 v Osake. Práca čitateľa zoznamuje s japonským dobovým kontextom a okolnosťami vzniku, ktoré následne prepája s československou účasťou. Pozícia a význam Expa v Osake je deklarovaná na základe zasadenia do histórie a vývoja podôb svetových výstav. V prípade československej účasti je snahou tejto práce bližšie oboznámenie s okolnosťami jej vzniku, do ktorých významne zasiahli udalosti z augusta 1968, čo sa následne odrazilo nielen na podobe a vyznení , ale i na ohlasoch a osudoch jej tvorcov.
