Teoretická část práce se zabývá definicí dalšího vzdělávání učitelů a jeho zasazením do kontextu vzdělávacích strategií ČR. Dále se věnuje některým charakteristikám DVPP v celoevropském pojetí, také charakteristikám dalšího vzdělávání učitelů jakožto vzdělávání dospělých z pohledu forem, motivace a lektora jako vzdělavatele dospělých.
