Data Warehouse Model for Cedant Reinsurance Processes

Abstract:

Zaisťovanie je komplexný priemysel zameraný na manažovanie riskov pojistných spoločností. Analyzovaním cedantných zaisťovacích procesov (procesy v ktorých poisťovatelia prenášajú časť svojich záväzkov na zaisťovateľov) môžu pojistné spoločnosti zlepšiť proces rozhodovania a hodnotiť svoje zaisťovacie stratégie. Táto práca sa zaoberá možnosťami využitia dátového skladu na analýzou cedantných zaisťovacých procesov, začínajúc s extenzívnou analýzou dát v týchto procesoch, ich interakcií a vzťahov. Ďalej text popisuje kroky ktorými bol vytvorený dimenzionálny model týchto dát. Nakoniec je model využitý na vytvorenie vizualizácií. Vytvorený model zahŕňa tabuľky dimenzií z oblasti zaisťovania, poistných zmlúv a poistných udalostí. Tieto dimenzie sa môžu využiť na analýzu štyroch procesov ktoré sú v modely reprezentované tabuľkami faktov: zaistené platby za poistné udalosti, zaistené rezervy, proporčné zaisťovacie prémium a neproporčné zaisťovacie prémium. Tento model bol implementovaný v MSSQL a naplnený testovacími dátami. Naplnený model bol potom importovaný do Power BI kde bolo vytvorených niekoľko reportov. Každý report reprezentuje jeden zo štyroch procesov, s dodatočným reportom pre prehľad zaisťovacej oblasti. Tieto vizualizácie umožňujú užívateľom porovnávať rôzne zaisťovacie zmluvy a sledovať evolúciu dát v čase. Práca poskytuje rozsiahlu analýzu procesu prenášania zaisťovacích dát do dimenzionálneho modelu a následne demonštruje praktickosť tohto modelu pomocou vytvorených reportov. Dodatočne, práca ponúka cenné postrehy k výzvam ktoré môžu nastať počas procesu vytvárania dátovehé skaldu a vizualizácií cedantných procesov.

Abstract:

Reinsurance is a complex business domain focused on managing the risk of insurance companies. By analyzing cedant processes (processes in which insurers transfer a portion of their liability onto the reinsurers), insurance companies can improve their decision-making process and evaluate their reinsurance strategies. This thesis delves into the possibilities of utilizing a data warehouse model for analyzing cedant reinsurance processes, starting with an extensive analysis of the data involved in the processes, their interactions, and their relationships. Subsequently, the text describes steps that were taken to create a dimensional model of the data. Lastly, the model is utilized for the creation of a visualization of the data. The created model contains dimension tables representing data from the reinsurance domain, insurance policies, and claims. These dimensions can be used to analyze the processes represented by the model's fact tables: reinsured claim payments, reinsured claim reserves, proportional reinsurance premium, and non-proportional reinsurance premium. This model was implemented in MSSQL and populated with a testing dataset. Then, the populated model was loaded into Power BI, where it was visualized in several reports. Each report is centered around one of the processes featured in the model, with an additional page offering an overview of the whole domain. The visualization allows users to compare the performance of various reinsurance contracts or types of reinsurance and track the evolution of data over time. The thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of the process of translating reinsurance data into a dimensional data model and subsequently demonstrates the model's usefulness through the created reports. Additionally, the thesis offers insights into challenges that may occur during the process of creating the data warehouse and visualizations for cedant processes.
