Presentation of Women in managerial working Positions in Lifestyle Magazines

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje propojení genderu, médiím a pracovnímu trhu v současné společnosti. Konkrétně je pozornost zaměřena na prezentaci žen ve veřejné sféře, zejména na trhu práce, v lifestylovém časopise Cosmopolitan. Vzhledem k tomu, že média a společnost fungují na základě propojení, kdy se mediální sdělení stávají nositeli ideologií, které jsou společností legitimně přijímané, nám studium mediální prezentace žen na pracovním trhu napomáhá odhalit, jakým způsobem jsou současnou dominantní společností a kulturou, vnímány. Na základě kvantitativního výzkumu byla odhalena četnost daného tématu. Kvalitativním výzkumem, konkrétně obsahovou a obrazovou analýzou jsem se pokusila zjistit zejména způsob, jakým jsou ženy na pracovním trhu a ve vyšších pracovních pozicích prezentovány a jaká nejčastější spojení se v tomto kontextu objevují.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the relationship among gender, media, and the labor market in contemporary society. Specifically, the attention is focused on the presentation of women in the public sphere, especially in the labor market in the lifestyle magazine Cosmopolitan. Due to the fact that the media and society are functioning on the basis of interdependence and also that media messages are becoming bearers of ideologies that are legitimately accepted in society, the study of media presentation of women in the labor market helps us reveal in what way women are perceived in the current dominant society and culture. The frequency of the topic was revealed on the basis of quantitative research. With the aid of a qualitative research, namely using content and image analysis, I tried to find out particularly the way women are presented in the labor market and in higher job positions and what are the most common connections appearing in this context.
