The Church of St. Catherine in Chrudim in the Second Half of the 19. Century: the Activity of the Cooperative for Internal Renovation

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je kostel sv. Kateřiny Alexandrijské v Chrudimi a proměna jeho interiéru v 80. a 90. letech 19. stol. Roku 1887 se zformovalo „Družstvo pro obnovu vnitřní kostela sv. Kateřiny“, které se zasloužilo o renovaci a úpravu jeho interiéru. Práce nejdříve uvádí kontext stavebních oprav kostela, které se uskutečnily ve 2. pol. 19. stol. Činnost „Družstva“ je detailně popisována na základě dosud nepublikovaných dokumentů Státního okresního archivu v Chrudimi. Téma práce je dále uvedeno do kontextu doby 19. století, města Chrudim a tvorby architekta Františka Schmoranze staršího, který je autorem neogotické úpravy kostela. V závěru bakalářské práce je nastíněno další možné badatelské studium.

Abstract:

The theme of the bachelor’s thesis is the church of St. Catharine of Alexandria in Chrudim and the modification of its interior in ’80s and ’90s of the 19th century. In 1887 the „Cooperative for internal renovation of St. Catharine church” was developed and contributed to renovation and modification of its interior. First the bachelor’s thesis introduces the context of the restoration of the church which was accomplished in the second half of the 19th century. The activity of the „Cooperative” is described in detail on the basis of unpublished archive documents from the State district archive in Chrudim. The thesis puts the city of Chrudim and the work of architect František Schmoranz Sr., who is the author of the church neogothic adaptation, into the context of the age of the 19th century. The possible follow-up study is outlined at the end of the bachelor’s thesis.
