Burma/Myanmar: ethno-religious conflict in Rakhine State

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá etno-náboženským konfliktem ve státě Rakhine v Barmě/Myanmaru. Analýza konfliktu mezi buddhisty etnika Rakhinů a muslimy etnika Rohingya volně vychází z teoretického konceptu Univerzity Uppsala. Práce popisuje historický kontext konfliktu, jeho průběh a zapojené aktéry. Následně jsou představeny čtyři základní linie neslučitelnosti mezi hlavními aktéry. V závěru jsou zjištěné informace konfrontovány s teoretickým vymezením příčin vnitrostátních konfliktů dle M. E. Browna. Cílem práce je přiblížit zkoumaný konflikt a umožnit jeho lepší uchopení v budoucnu.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis deals with etno-religious conflict in the Rakhine state in Burma/Myanmar. The analysis of the conflict between ethnically Rakhine Buddhists and ethnically Rohingya Muslims has been loosely based on the Uppsala University theoretical concept. The thesis describes historical context of the conflict, its development and involved actors. Subsequently there are defined four basic incompatibility lines between main actors. The last part confronts gathered data with the M. E. Brown’s theoretical concept about the causes of the internal conflict. Main goal is to closely introduce analysed conflict and to enable its better understanding in the future.
