A Dividing Line Man - Animal in Work of Charles Darwin

Abstract:

Tématem této diplomové práce je hranice člověka a zvířete, a to především v díle Charlese Darwina, i když velká část práce je také věnována dějinám dané problematiky a autorům, na které Darwin navazoval. První kapitola proto pojednává o tom, jak bylo na podobnosti a rozdílnosti člověka a zvířete nahlíženo v antice, středověku a novověku. Druhá kapitola představuje život a názory Charlese Darwina a třetí jeho náhled na hranici člověka a zvířete, kterou autor hledá v rovině tělesné i duševní. Tato hranice je Darwinem spatřována především v oblasti morálky a svědomí a zčásti ve vyšších rozumových schopnostech a myšlenkových základech, které člověk získal výchovou. Poslední kapitola práce pak pojednává o reakcích na Darwinovy myšlenky a o některých současných autorech, kteří už otázku po hranici člověka a zvířete posunují do jiných rovin.

Abstract:

The topic of this diploma thesis is the dividing line between man and animal, particularly in works of Charles Darwin, although the big part of the thesis is also devoted to the history of this topic and authors, Darwin concurs. That´s why the first chapter discusses the way of perceiving the similarities and differencies between man and animals in antiquity, in the Middle Ages and in modern period. The second head shows Darwin´s life and outlook and the third head is about Darwin´s opinions connected with the outline between man and animal, that is searched in two levels: the material and the mental level. Darwin sees this outline particularly in moral sphere and in the human conscience and partly in the superior intellectual potentialities and in ideal grounds, that were given to the people thanks to education and culture. The last head of the thesis deals with the reactions to Darwin´s ideas and is also about some contemporary authors, who have shifted the question about the dividing line man - animal to the different levels.
