The importance of practical competencies for the employment of university graduates in the labour market in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřená na problematiku kompetencí absolventů vysokých škol a jejich následného pracovního uplatnění. Cílem je zjistit, jaké kompetence jsou důležité pro uplatnění absolventů vysokých škol na trhu práce v ČR, přičemž důraz je kladen na praktické kompetence, které nelze nabýt pouhým studiem, ale především reálnými zkušenostmi z pracovního prostředí. V první kapitole je analyzováno postavení absolventů na trhu práce a provedena rešerše zdrojů na téma potřebných kompetencí v dnešní době. Druhá kapitola přináší přehled o duálním vzdělávání, jež efektivně propojuje teoretické vzdělávání s praxí a napomáhá osvojování praktických kompetencí. Třetí kapitola je založena na vlastním kvalitativním výzkumu, který byl realizován pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s dvaceti respondenty, studenty a absolventy Vysoké školy ekonomické v Praze i HR odborníky z různých společností. Závěry výzkumu ukazují důležitost klíčových kompetencí, konkrétně schopnosti učit se, komunikačních dovedností, adaptability a flexibility, zodpovědnosti a motivace. Praktické zkušenosti jsou zaměstnavateli oceňovány, nikoli zpravidla vyžadovány, a ovlivňují především pracovní morálku, zodpovědnost, schopnost vyjednávání, vedení lidi, práci pod stresem či trpělivost.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the issue of competencies of university graduates and their subsequent employment. The aim is to find out what competencies are important for the employment of university graduates in the Czech labor market with an emphasis on practical competencies that cannot be acquired by study alone but mainly by real experience in the working environment. In the first chapter, the position of graduates in the labor market is analysed and research of sources on the topic of competencies that are nowadays necessary is carried out. The second chapter provides an overview of dual education, which effectively links theoretical education with practice and facilitates the acquisition of practical competencies. The third chapter is based on the author's own qualitative research that was conducted through semi-structured interviews with twenty respondents, students and graduates of the University of Economics and Business and HR professionals from various companies. The findings of the research show the importance of key competencies, namely the ability to learn, communication skills, adaptability and flexibility, responsibility, and motivation. Practical experience is valued by employers, but not usually required, and it mainly influences work ethic, responsibility, negotiation and leadership skills, working under stress, or patience.
