Levels of shyness among student of education and their motivation towards becoming a teacher

Anotace:

Cílem této práce bylo zjistit, jaká je úroveň stydlivosti u studentů učitelských oborů, zda lze pozorovat odlišnosti v úrovni stydlivosti mezi studenty humanitních a přírodovědných oborů, případně zda jsou studenti v nižších ročnících (1.–3.) stydlivější než studenti ve vyšších ročnících (4.–5. ročník). Dále je smyslem této práce prozkoumat vztahy mezi úrovní stydlivosti a motivaci k učitelské profesi. Data byla sesbírána od 408 studentů vysokých škol, z nichž 248 bylo studenty učitelství. Respondenti vyplňovali dotazník sestavený z dotazníku určeného pro měření stydlivosti – ShyQ a pro zjišťování motivačních faktorů – Fit-Choice scale. Výsledky naznačují, že studenti učitelství a ostatní studenti vysokých škol se v úrovni stydlivosti příliš neliší, dále, že míra stydlivosti se liší u studentů přírodovědných a humanitních učitelských oborů. Analýza vztahů odhalila statisticky významný vztah mezi úrovní stydlivosti a faktorem spokojenosti s výběrem profesního oboru.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to investigate the level of shyness among students of education and to determine whether there are differences in the level of shyness between students of humanities and natural science education disciplines, as well as whether students in lower years (1st-3rd) are more shy than students in higher years (4th-5th). Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to explore the relationships between the level of shyness and motivation towards the teaching profession. Data was collected from 408 university students, of which 248 were students of education. Respondents completed a questionnaire composed of the ShyQ questionnaire designed to measure shyness and the Fit-Choice scale for assessing motivational factors. The results indicate that students of education and other university students do not differ in the level of shyness. Additionally, the level of shyness varies among students of natural science and humanities education disciplines. Analysis of the relation-ships revealed a statistically significant correlation between the level of shyness and satis-faction with the choice of profession factor.
