Women in the managerial positions and the harmonisation of work and family life

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá manažerkami a jejich harmonizačními strategiemi. Snaží se odpovědět na hlavní výzkumnou otázku: „Jaké jsou zamýšlené a realizované kariérní a rodinné strategie, jaké jsou harmonizační strategie v oblasti práce a rodiny u žen v manažerských pozicích a jakou roli v harmonizačních strategiích sehrávají opatření rodinné politiky?“ K zodpovězení této otázky byla zvolena kvalitativní výzkumná strategie, specificky případová studie. Výzkum se zaměřuje na zamýšlené a realizované strategie manažerek ve vztahu ke kariéře a rodině, dále se zabývá harmonizačními strategiemi a sleduje roli opatření rodinných politik v těchto strategiích. Práce dochází k závěru, že mezi zamýšlenými kariérními strategiemi a kariérními trajektoriemi je rozpor, protože manažerky do pozic v managementu neměly zájem jít. V oblasti harmonizace se jeví jako důležitá extensivní role manžela, rozložení povinností však nikdy není rovnoměrné. Často manažerky volí cestu komerčních služeb péče o dítě a placené síly na úklid. Výzkum dále ukazuje, že z rodinných politik jsou pro ženy důležité především dávky v několika prvních měsících života dítěte a dále služby péče o dítě.

Abstract:

This thesis is concerned with a topic of women managers and their harmonisation strategies. It aims to answer the main research question: “What are the intended and implemented career and family strategies, what are the work-family harmonisation strategies of women managers and what role does the family policy measures play in these strategies?” To answer this question a qualitative research strategy, specifically a case study, was chosen. The research focuses on intended and implemented strategies of women managers in relation to career and family, further it deals with harmonisation strategies and the role of family policy measures. The research finds out that there is a discrepancy between intended career strategies and real career paths because women managers did not intend to work in managerial positions. In harmonisation, the extensive role of husband appears to be important; however, the division of non-paid labour is never equal. Women managers often choose to pay for private day-care service and cleaning service. The research shows that only paid leaves in first couple of months of mothering and day-care services are important for these women.
