Problems of self advocacy of mentally disabled people

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou sebeobhajování osob s mentálním postižením na území České republiky. Přináší základní informace o specifikaci osob s mentálním postižením, o možnostech jejich vzdělávání, pracovního uplatnění a bydlení. Dále prezentuje důležitou oblast pro osoby s mentálním postižením, kterou představují lidská práva, především jejich uplatňování ve společnosti. Tato část diplomové práce reflektuje na skutečnost, že se osobám s mentálním postižením nedaří naplňovat každodenní práva. Důvodem je, že, v užším kontextu pracovníci pomáhajících profesí a rodiče, v širším kontextu pak společnost, nedává možnost je prosazovat. V problematice uplatňování práv osob s mentálním postižením je pozornost věnována procesu sebeobhajování, během kterého se mohou osoby s mentálním postižením naučit hájit svá práva, vyjadřovat názory, plnit své povinnosti a v neposlední řadě bojovat proti diskriminaci.Velká pozornost je věnována realizaci sebeobhajování v České republice, procesu utváření konkrétní skupiny sebeobhájců a perspektivě jejího dalšího fungování.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with problems of self advocacy of mentally disabled people in the Czech Republic. It brings basic information about specifications of mental disabled people, about possibilities of their education, employment and housing. Then it contains an important area for mentally disabled people, which are human rights, especially their enforcement in society. This part of the thesis reflects the fact that people with mental disabilities fail to fulfil their everyday rights. The reason is that, in narrow context workers of helping professions and parents, in wider context the society, don’t give the the opportunity to promote them. Within the problem of promoting of rights of people with mental disabilities the focus is on the process of self advocacy during which people with mental disabilities can learn to defend their rights, express their opinions, perform their duties and last but not least to fight against discrimination. Big attention is paid to the execution of self advocacy in the Czech Republic, to the process of creating a particular group of self advocats and to the perspectives of further functioning.
