This thesis focuses on the popular romances of today - Fifty Shades of Grey and Twilight - which have become immensely popular in the last few years. This popularity often becomes ascribed to their newness, however, as this thesis tries to prove, the ideology that these novels present originates in equally popular novels from the eighteenth and early nineteenth century which also concentrated on marriage …more
