Comparative analysis of the participation of the Visegrad Group countries in the NATO ISAF mission

Abstract:

Mise ISAF (International Security Assistant Force) byla mnohonárodním uskupením pod velením NATO působícím v Afghánistánu od roku 2001 do konce roku 2014 a jednalo se o zatím nejrozsáhlejší a nejnáročnější operaci NATO v jeho novodobé historii. Formace tzv. Visegrádu, nebo přesněji Visegrádské skupiny je uskupení čtyř východoevropských zemí (Česká Republika, Maďarsko, Polsko a Slovensko), které sdílejí nejen společnou geografickou polohu, ale v mnoha směrech také bezpečnostní zájmy. Všechny země Visegrádské skupiny jsou již po různou dobu členy NATO a všechny se určitým způsobem podílely, jakožto plnohodnotné členské státy, na zahraničních aktivitách Aliance, a to včetně mise ISAF. Primárnímy cíly této práce bude analyzovat a následně komparovat deklarované motivační faktory jednotlivých zemí V4 pro účast na operaci ISAF a jejich následné příspěvky do této operace.

Abstract:

ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) was a multinational NATO operation in Afghanistan from 2001 until the end of 2014 and was the largest and most challenging operation in NATO's recent history. The formation of so-called Visegrad Group is a group of four Eastern European countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia), who share not only a common geographic location, but in many ways also a security interests. All the countries of the Visegrad Group are NATO members already for varying periods of time, and all four are somewhat involved in foreign activities of the Alliance, as a full-fledged member states, including the ISAF mission. The primary objectives of this thesis will be analyze and compare the declared motivating factors of individual V4 countries for participation in the ISAF operation and their subsequent contributions to this operation.
