Identifikaci či autentizaci osob z pohledu obecného systému lze podle dosavadní praxe založit na prokázání znalosti (login a heslo), vlastnictví konkrétního předmětu (token) či na ověření určité vlastnosti dané osoby (fyziologická či behaviorální biometrika). Identification or authentication of users can be based either on proving some knowledge (e.g. login and password), on checking ownership of a particular object (token) or on verifying a certain physiological or behavioral property of a user (biometrics).
