Stressful Situations and Workload Among University Students

Abstract:

These days, a person is more and more exposed to civilization influences. These influences are not always positive, but very often interfere with the psychic and physical balance of the organism. One of the negative effects is stress. Stress research has significantly developed over the last decades, have gained wide use in practice and attracted attention not only to psychologists but also to the general public. Today, stress knowledge is used in many areas of human activity, such as medicine, marriage counseling, sports, armed forces, and even the influence of stress on pets is studied. In industry and logistics, stress knowledge is applied in the selection and training of workers and managers fordemanding occupations, in developing effective working methods, in dealing with interpersonal relationships in a team, etc. Higher level of stress is also exposed by university students. Revealing this stress and its causes and the subsequent fight against them is considered to be an important contribution to improve the quality of the training of young people at universities. If the level of stress was reduced, a better mental and then physical state of the students would be achieved. This could result in a more positive approach to study and thus to improve the quality of graduates' education. This thesis deals with the definition of stress, the specification of general concepts in the field of higher education and in the practical part with research and analysis of the stress factors that university students encounter.

Abstract:

V současné době je člověk stále více vystavován civilizačním vlivům. Tyto vlivy nepůsobí vždy jen kladně, ale velmi často narušují psychickou i fyzickou rovnováhu organismu. Jedním z projevů záporných vlivů je stres. Výzkumy v oblasti stresu se v posledních desetiletích značně rozvinuly, získaly široké uplatnění v praxi a upoutaly pozornost nejen psychologů, ale i laické veřejnosti. Poznatky o stresu se dnes využívají v mnoha oblastech lidské činnosti, např. v lékařství, v manželských poradnách, ve sportu, v ozbrojených složkách, studován je i vliv stresu na domácí zvířata. V průmyslu a logistice se vědomosti o stresu uplatňují při výběru a školení pracovníků a manažerů pro náročná povolání, při vyvíjení efektivních metod práce, při řešení mezilidských vztahů v kolektivech aj. Vysoké úrovni stresu bývají vystaveni i studenti vysokých škol. Odhalení tototo stresu a jeho příčin a následný boj proti nim považujeme za důležitý přínos ke zkvalitnění přípravy mladých lidí na vysokých školách. Snížením úrovně stresu by se dosáhlo lepšího psychického a tím i následně fyzického stavu studentů. To by se mohlo projevit na pozitivnějším přístupu ke studiu a tím i ke zvýšení kvality vzdělanosti absolventů. Tato práce se zabývá vymezením pojmu stres, specifikací obecných pojmů na oblast vysokoškolského vzdělávání a v praktické části výzkumem a analýzou stresových faktorů, s nimiž se studenti setkávají.
