Through the Cinematographer`s Art to the Glory of the Image Artist

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce „Řemeslem kameramana ke slávě umělce obrazu: Andrej Barla, Sławomir Idziak a Miroslav Ondříček o svém řemesle“ rozebírá co významní čeští a světoví kameramani považují za své řemeslo a jako mu přikládají důležitost. V první ze čtyř kapitol práce nabízí obecnou polemiku nad slovem řemeslo a snaží se tento pojem definovat skrze názory významných kameramanů. Navazující tři kapitoly se potom věnují podrobněji třem rozlišným cestám jednotlivých kameramanů a jejich řemesla. Druhá kapitola rozebírá, jak se Miroslav Ondříček musel vypořádat se svým řemeslem během natáčení filmu Amadeus (Forman, 1984). Zatímco řemeslo je v této kapitole nahlíženo především z pohledu technického, v následující třetí kapitole je diskutováno především z pohledu dramaturgického a experimentálního na příkladu práce polského kameramana Sławomira Idziaka a jeho práce na filmech Krátký film o zabíjení (1987, Kieślowski) a Tři barvy: modrá (1993, Kieślowski). Závěrečná čtvrtá kapitola debatuje řemeslo z pohledu času a pohledu generačního na ukázce tvorby kameramana Andreje Barly a jeho filmů Zlatá reneta (1965, Vávra) a Romance pro křídlovku (1966, Vávra). Tato bakalářská práce tvrdí, že všichni tři zmínění kameramani dosáhli ovládnutím svého řemesla až ke slávě umělců obrazu. Kapitoly o Sławomirovi Idziakovi a Andreji Barlovi jsou postaveny na mých vlastních rozhovorech, které jsem s kameramany vedl.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis „Through the Cinematographer`s Craft to the Glory of the Image Artist: Andrej Barla, Sławomir Idziak and Miroslav Ondricek on Their Craft“ is analysing how important Czech and world cinematographers define their craft and what importance it has for them. The first out of four chapters is a debate about the word “craft”. The chapter`s aim is to define the word through the opinions of important cinematographers. The following three chapters pay closer attention to different career paths of three specific cinematographers and their craft. The second chapter is an analysis of how Miroslav Ondricek had to handle his craft while shooting the film Amadeus (Forman, 1984). While the craft in this chapter is looked at mainly from the technological perspective, the following third chapter looks at the craft more from the perspective of dramaturgy and experiment. The third chapter discusses the work of the polish cinematographer Sławomir Idziak on films A Short Film About Killing (1987, Kieślowski) and Three Colours: Blue (1993, Kieślowski). The last fourth chapter looks at the cinematographer`s craft from the perspective of time and perspective of generations. The centre of attention in this chapter is the work of Czech cinematographer Andrej Barla on Czech films Golden Queen (Vavra, 1965) and Romance for Bugle (Vavra, 1966). This bachelor thesis argues that all three discussed cinematographers reached the glory of image artists through mastering their craft. The chapters on Sławomir Idziak and Andrej Barla are based on my own interviews with the two cinematographers.
