Social workers view of the person with schizophrenia

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá sociální konstrukci člověka se schizofrenií u vybraných sociálních pracovníků. Zaměřuje se na schizofrenii a člověka se schizofrenií optikou konstruktivismu. V teoretické části práce jsou v širší souvislosti vysvětleny pojmy a termíny obsahující základní výzkumnou otázku: „sociální pracovník“, „konstruktivismus“, „osobnost jedince“ a „diagnóza schizofrenie“. Výzkum práce je kvalitativní, jde o polostrukturované rozhovory se 13 sociálními pracovníky, kteří primárně nepracují s lidmi se schizofrenií. Po analýze dat bylo zjištěno: Při obecném hovoru o schizofrenii a člověku se schizofrenií používají sociální pracovníci nejčastěji medicínský diskurz a diskurz sociální práce. Při hovoru, který je zaměřen více konkrétněji, produkovali výpovědi, které byly nejvýznamněji ovlivněny optikou sociální práce, medicíny, psychologie a sociologie. Osobnost člověka se schizofrenií konstruovali nejčastěji pod vlivem jeho diagnózy, z které vyvodili určité skutečnosti – narušený kontakt s realitou, nevyzpytatelnost, obtížná komunikace, osamocenost, potřeba sociální pomoci a stigmatizace. Svou interakci s tímto člověkem reflexivně konstruovali jako ovlivněnou skutečností jeho diagnózy. Pro ovlivnění způsobu konstruování se ukázal jako nejvýznamnější faktor u sociálních pracovníků jejich věk, délka praxe a zkušenost s člověkem se schizofrenií.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis researches the social construction of a person with schizophrenia by a selection of social workers. It focuses on schizophrenia and a person with schizophrenia with the optic of constructivism. In the theoretical section, the following terms are explained in broader context as they carry the main question of the reasearch: social worker, constructivism, personality of an individual, diagnosis of schizophrenia. The nature of the research is qualitative, there are semi-structured interviews with total of thirteen social workers who primarily do not work people with schizophrenia. The analysis of collected data determined following: In general dialog about schizophrenia or a person with schizophrenia the social workes use most often the medical discourse and the discourse of social work. In a dialog that was more specific the social workers produced answers most influenced by the optic of social work, medicine, psychology and sociology. They constructed the personality of person with schizophrenia most often under the influence of his or her diagnosis from which they have outlined several features: distorted contact with reality, inscrutability, difficult communication, loneliness, need of social help and stigmatization. They have reflexively constructed their interaction with the afflicted person as influenced by the diagnosis. The main factors contributing to the way of the social worker’s construction are among the following: age, length of work experience and amount of experience with a person with schizophrenia.
