The Utilization of Benchmarking for Quality Management and Performance Improvement in Higher Education

Abstract:

Tato disertační práce se zabývá využitím benchmarkingu ve vysokém školství. Zaměřuje se na ekonomické fakulty veřejných vysokých škol a soukromé vysoké školy ekonomického směru. Teoretická část práce se soustřeďuje na popis dosavadní zkušenosti s aplikací benchmarkingu v prostředí vysokého školství v České republice a ve světě, podstatnou částí je také popis kolaborativních benchmarkingových iniciativ. V analytické části práce jsou prezentovány výsledky dotazníkového šetření, jež má za cíl popis současné zkušenosti s benchmarkingem v prostředí ekonomických vysokých škol. Na tuto část navazuje analýza kolaborativních benchmarkingových iniciativ a identifikace základních faktorů úspěšnosti a srovnání s Českou republikou. Následuje představení navrženého modelu pro kolaborativní benchmarking. V této části je také představen postup pro hledání vhodných partnerů pro benchmarking. Závěr práce je věnován diskuzi o možných mechanismech motivace univerzit ke kooperaci.

Abstract:

This dissertation deals with the use of benchmarking in higher education, with a focus on the economics faculties at public universities and private universities in economics. The theoretical part focuses on the description of experience with the application of benchmarking in an environment of higher education in the Czech Republic and the world. A significant part of the theory also focuses on the description of collaborative benchmarking initiatives. In the analytical part, the results of a survey which aims to describe the current experience with benchmarking in an environment of economic universities are presented. This part is followed by an analysis of collaborative benchmarking initiatives and identification of essential success factors and a comparison with the Czech Republic. This is followed by a proposed model for collaborative benchmarking. This section also introduces an approach for finding suitable partners for benchmarking. The conclusion is devoted to a discussion of the possible mechanisms of motivation for universities to cooperate.
