Ensuring the operation of the Permanent Military Connection Network using IoT

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce (DP) se věnuje využití IoT technologií ve spojitosti se zabezpečením provozu stálé vojenské spojovací sítě Armády České republiky (SVSS AČR) v oblastech napájení, provozních podmínek, překážkového osvětlení a fyzického přístupu k technologiím. Pro oblast napájení je v práci stěžejní monitoring systému zálohovaného napájení a monitoring napájení z distribuční sítě. Oblast provozních podmínek je zaměřena na monitoring vnějších i vnitřních faktorů, které ovlivňují kvalitu spojení i funkčnost provozovaných technologií. V oblasti překážkového osvětlení je pozornost primárně věnována taktéž monitoringu jeho funkčnosti. Pro poslední oblast, kterou je zabezpečení fyzického přístupu, je náplní získání informací o přístupu a pohybu osob v technologických provozovnách SVSS. S přihlédnutím ke specifickým požadavkům a podmínkám provozu technologií IoT v prostředí ozbrojených sil, jsou v práci také zmíněny možnosti sběru, zpracování a využití získaných dat. Práce obsahuje stručné seznámení s všeobecným konceptem IoT, možnostmi jeho využití, nejčastějšími technologickými řešeními a limity. V návaznosti na seznámení s IoT jsou v této práci dále rozebrána specifika a omezení použití běžných IoT technologií v armádním prostředí. Pro potřeby posouzení vhodnosti nasazení a využití technologií IoT ve vojenském prostředí je popsán systém SVSS v aktuálním stavu bez nasazení uvažovaných IoT technologií s výčtem nedostatků a aktuálních potřeb. Navazující praktická část práce se věnuje návrhu řešení použití IoT, které má potenciál redukovat dříve uvedené nedostatky a negativní dopady. Práce se opírá o dosavadní praktické zkušenosti ze zabezpečování nepřetržitého provozu SVSS v řešených oblastech, jejich dohledu a využití nasbíraných dat. Návrh řešení obsahuje popis navrhovaných IoT technologií, způsob přenosu informací k dalšímu využití, a to včetně dohledu implementovaných IoT technologií. Práce popisuje i možnosti využití získaných dat v oblasti meteorologických podmínek a jejich praktický přínos. V neposlední řadě praktická část popisuje možné přínosy pro provoz SVSS, které v rámci armády nemusí být jen finančního charakteru.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the use of IoT technologies in connection with securing the operation of the permanent military communication network of the Czech Army (SVSS AČR) in the areas of power supply, operating conditions, obstacle lighting and physical access to technologies. For the area of power supply, the monitoring of the backup power system and the monitoring of the power supply from the distribution network are central to the work. The area of operating conditions focuses on the monitoring of external and internal factors that affect the quality of the connection and the functionality of the operating technologies. In the area of obstacle lighting, the primary focus is also on monitoring its functionality. For the last area, which is physical access security, the focus is on obtaining information on access and movement of persons in the SVSS technology sites. Taking into account the specific requirements and conditions of operation of IoT technologies in the environment of the armed forces, the thesis also mentions the possibilities of collecting, processing and using the obtained data. The thesis includes a brief introduction to the general concept of IoT, its possible applications, the most common technological solutions and limitations. Following the introduction to IoT, the specifics and limitations of using common IoT technologies in a military environment are further discussed in this thesis. For the purpose of assessing the suitability of deploying and using IoT technologies in a military environment, the SVSS system in its current state without deploying the considered IoT technologies is described with a list of shortcomings and current needs. The subsequent practical part of the thesis is devoted to the design of IoT deployment solutions that have the potential to reduce the previously mentioned shortcomings and negative impacts. The work is based on the previous practical experience of ensuring continuous operation of SVSS in the considered areas, their monitoring and use of collected data. The proposed solution includes a description of the proposed IoT technologies, the method of information transfer for further use, and the monitoring of the implemented IoT technologies. The thesis also describes the possibilities of using the collected data in the field of meteorological conditions and its practical benefits. Last but not least, the practical part describes the possible benefits for the operation of the SVSS, which in the context of the military may not be only of a financial nature.
