The effect of media and their impact on children's aggression

Abstract:

ANNOTATION The thesis discusses the impact of media and their effect on children's aggression. I m the first theoretical part, we tried to briefly bring the issue of media and the history of the individual media. Subsequently, we focused on what the media is known to influence the viewer, as they not only deliver information but also influence public opinion, convey the social norms of behavior and have a great social impact. It is no wonder that the media affect us in several areas of our daily lives. Particularly significant issue is the impact of media violence on humans; the main vulnerable groups are children. In the study, we show why children are endangered, because they often fail to separate reality from fiction and they think the images they see in the media are real. We mentioned that there is no clear study that would confirm the known effect of media violence on aggression, but there’s none to exclude this. Constantly more and more violence and aggression presented to us then appears as a normal part of life not as something we should condemn. The practical part, we tried to find out how children perceive the media and which of them they prefer, or consider the media as a source of information, entertainment or other activities and how much time they devote to the media. We tried to determine if children prefer programs with violent scenes and what effects have on such programs on them, for example whether they felt fear during or after viewing the program, or imitate violent scenes. This work describes the course of our research and quantitative results we have obtained.

Abstract:

ANOTÁCIA Diplomová práca pojednáva o pôsobení médií a o ich vplyve na agresivitu detí. V prvej teoretickej časti, sme sa snažili priblížiť stručne problematiku médií a stručne aj históriu jednotlivých médií. Následne sme sa zamerali na to v čom vedia médiá ovplyvňovať diváka, ako dokážu nielen prinášať informácie, ale aj ovplyvňovať verejnú mienku, sprostredkovávajú spoločenské normy správania a majú veľký sociálny vplyv. Nie je divu, že nás médiá ovplyvňujú vo viacerých oblastiach nášho každodenného života. Zvlášť výraznou témou je vplyv mediálneho násilia na človeka, hlavnou ohrozenou skupinou sú deti. V práci uvádzame, prečo práve deti, lebo často nevedia oddeliť realitu od fikcie a obrazy, ktoré im sprostredkovávajú médiá považujú za reálne. Uviedli sme, že neexistuje jednoznačná štúdia, ktorá by vedela potvrdiť vplyv mediálneho násilia na agresivitu, ale ani to nevylúčila. Neustále viac a viac prezentované násilie a agresivita sa nám potom javí ako bežná súčasť života a nie ako niečo čo by sme mali odsudzovať. V praktickej časti sme sa snažili zistiť ako deti vnímajú média a ktoré z nich najviac preferujú, či považujú médiá, za zdroj informácií, zábavy alebo iných činností a koľko času venujú médiám. Snažili sme sa zistiť, či deti preferujú programy s násilnými scénami a aké vplyvy majú na nich takéto programy, napr. či pociťovali strach počas alebo po sledovaní programu, či napodobňujú násilné scény. Práca popisuje priebeh nášho kvantitatívneho výskumu a výsledky, ktoré sme získali.
