Folk costume as an aesthetic message: the story of Prušánky

Abstract:

Cílem práce Lidový kroj jako estetická zpráva je nalézt a popsat estetickou funkci a s ní i spojenou zprávu prušáneckého kroje, tedy etnografické "uniformy" konkrétní vesnice na Slovácku, Prušánek, zčásti i jeho nejbližšího okolí, Podluží. Kroj je v textu chápán jako znak, jehož význam je skryt v jeho částech a uspořádaném celku. V textu jsou ukázány důvody, proč nelze kroj obecně považovat za "maškarní oblek" svého druhu, jak bývá dnes mnohými nazýván, ale jde o historicky daný harmonický celek, organickou strukturu s jedinečným, i estetickým významem. Jednotlivá tvrzení jsou vždy obrazově, textově či historicky doložena.

Abstract:

The aim of the work "Folk Costume as an Aesthetic Message" is to find and describe the aesthetic function and the associated message of the Prušánky costume, which is the ethnographic "uniform" of a specific village in Slovácko, Prušánky, and partly its immediate surroundings in Podluží. The costume is understood in the text as a symbol whose meaning is hidden in its parts and organized whole. The text presents reasons why the costume cannot be generally considered as a kind of "masquerade costume," as it is often referred to today, but rather as a historically given harmonious entity, an organic structure with a unique aesthetic significance. Each statement is supported by visual, textual, historical evidence.
