Enhancing the Culture of Public Space in Prague through Maximum Speed Regulation

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá možnými benefity zavedení základního rychlostního limitu 30 km/h v Praze s důrazem na možný vliv tohoto opatření na kvalitu veřejného prostoru. Cílem práce je zjistit názory relevantních aktérů na možnost zavedení rychlostního limitu 30 km/h v Praze a zkoumat možné dopady na dopravu, bezpečnost, životní prostředí a celkovou kvalitu života obyvatel Prahy. Práce má zároveň prozkoumat provázání mezi zklidňováním dopravy a uměním, a navrhnout možnosti uměleckých intervencí, které by bylo možné použít k podpoře změn ve veřejném prostoru v důsledku omezení rychlosti. Práce přináší komplexní pohled na možné benefity plošného snížení rychlostního limitu na 30 km/h v Praze, odhaluje nedostatky v současném stavu a navrhuje konkrétní umělecké intervence, které by mohly fungovat podpůrně ke zklidnění dopravy v Praze.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis explores the potential benefits of implementing 30km/h speed limit within the city of Prague, with a focus on the possible impact of this measure on the quality of public space. The aim of the thesis is to examine the opinions of relevant specialists on the potential effects of speed restriction on transportation, safety, the environment, and overall quality of life for Prague residents. Additionally, the thesis aims to explore the connection between traffic calming and art, and to propose artistic intervention options that could be used to support changes in public space resulting from speed limitations. The thesis provides a comprehensive view of the potential benefits of the widespread reduction of the speed limit to 30 km/h in Prague, identifies certain shortcomings in the current situation, and proposes specific artistic interventions that could function supportively in traffic calming efforts in Prague.
