Implementation of sustainability principles into the strategy of the Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies at Mendel University in Brno

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá celosvětovým aktuálním tématem udržitelnosti a integrováním principů ESG. Cílem této diplomové práce je navrhnout postup při implementaci principů udržitelnosti do strategie Fakulty regionálního rozvoje a mezinárodních studií na Mendelově univerzitě v Brně, který reflektuje specifické potřeby a možnosti fakulty. Teoretická část práce vychází z analýzy a syntézy stávajících literárních zdrojů a studií týkajících se udržitelnosti a ESG kritérií. Informace jsou získány z domácích i mezinárodních zdrojů prostřednictvím databází Moravské zemské knihovny, Mendelovy univerzity v Brně, Google Scholar, Web of Science a EBSCO dle následujících klíčových slov: sustainability, ESG, non-financial reporting, ESRS, CSRD, corporate social responsibility, sustainable models, sustainable development. Praktická část práce využívá získané poznatky k analýze zainteresovaných stran, hodnocení současného stavu, identifikaci klíčových oblastí pro zlepšení a možné příležitosti a rizika. Konečný návrh zahrnuje formulaci cílů, strategických záměrů, ukazatelů výkonnosti a návrh postupu tvorby udržitelné strategie, který se skládá z následujících 5 kroků: vytvoření týmu, využití ESG kritérií, stanovení a implementace strategie, evaluace a monitorování a feedback. Pro efektivní zavedení strategie udržitelnosti je klíčové rozšířit znalosti o ESG kritériích i nefinančním reportingu, definování specifických cílů udržitelnosti a vytvoření strategie s akčním plánem v souladu s EU standardy a jejich propojení s univerzitním konceptem Udržitelná MENDELU. Přístup by měl být postupný s důrazem na pravidelné hodnocení efektivity.

Abstract:

This thesis addresses the global current topic of sustainability and the integration of ESG principles. The aim of this thesis is to propose a procedure for implementing sustainability principles into the strategy of the Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies at Mendel University in Brno, reflecting the specific needs and opportunities of the faculty. The theoretical part is based on the analysis and synthesis of existing literary sources and studies on sustainability and ESG criteria. Information is obtained from domestic and international sources through databases of the Moravian Library, Mendel University in Brno, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and EBSCO using the following keywords: sustainability, ESG, non-financial reporting, ESRS, CSRD, corporate social responsibility, sustainable models. The practical part utilizes the acquired knowledge to analyze stakeholders, evaluate the current state, identify key areas for improvement, and potential opportunities and risks. Final proposal includes the formulation of goals, strategic intentions, performance indicators, and a procedure for creating a sustainable stratégy which consists of the following five steps: team formation, utilization of ESG criteria, setting and implementing the strategy, evaluation and monitoring, and feedback. For effective implementation of a sustainability strategy, it is crucial to expand knowledge about ESG criteria and non-financial reporting, define specific sustainability goals and create a strategy with an action plan in line with EU standards, integrating it with the university concept of Sustainable MENDELU. The approach should be gradual with an emphasis on regular effectiveness evaluations.
