Abstract:

Anotácia Táto diplomová práca predstavuje kvantitatívny komparatívny výskum, ktorý identifikuje kľúčové elementy ovplyvňujúce postoje voči imigrantom a medzinárodné odchýlky v nich naprieč dvadsať jedna Európskymi krajinami. Práca si kladie za cieľ odpovedať na otázku, ktorá sa viaže na kontaktnú teóriu (Contact Theory), ktorá je aplikovanú na tento výskum. Navyše okrem kontaktnej teórie reflektuje výskum aj nedávne výsledky výskumov z oblasti sociálnej psychológie, ktoré prisudzujú dôleži-tosť rozoznávaniu charakteru kontaktu – jeho hĺbke a charakteru v zmysle pozitívny/negatívny. Daná výskumná otázka je, či má nižšiu váhu osobný kontakt pri formovaní postojov v krajinách s vyšším podielom imigrantov a imigrantiek a v krajinách kde imigranti a imigranti sú rovnomernejšie rozptýlený v socioekonomickej štruktúre krajiny. Hypotéza je testovaná na dátovom súbore Európskeho sociálneho prieskumu (European Social Survey, ESS) a unikátnosť tohto výskumu spočíva v aplikovaní vysvetľujúcich premenných merajúcich medzi skupinový kontakt na dvoch úrovniach v hierarchickom lineárnom modely a následnom skúmanú vzťahu medzi nimi. Tieto úrovne sú individuálna (priame vystavenie sa kontaktu) a národná (nepriame vystavenie sa kontaktu). Výsledky podporujú hypotézu iba čiastočne. Výskum však odhalil existenciu vzťahu medzi rôznymi úrovňami kontaktu. Rovnako potvrdil signifikantnú pestrosť vo výsledkoch naprieč krajinami v mikro efektoch a slabý efekt národných premenných na postoje v HLM modeloch.

Abstract:

Abstract This thesis represents quantitative comparative research and identifies key elements influencing attitudes towards immigrants and their international variability in twenty-one European countries. It addresses question related to immigrants’ attitudes while applying Intergroup Contact Theory. Moreover, the research reflects upon recent results of social psychology and acknowledges the character of an individual’s contact with immigrant(s) – its depth and positive/negative evaluation. Research hypothesises that intergroup personal contact rate loses its importance on the attitude formation with the increase in the size of a foreign population or its more even socioeconomic dispersion in a country. Hypothesis is tested on The European Social Survey (ESS) data, and uniqueness of the research lies in employing explanatory variables monitoring intergroup contact in multilevel regression models on two levels: individual (direct exposure) and national (indirect exposure) and in analysing their interaction. The results partially support the hypothesis. Research however proves existence of the relation between two levels of contact. Additionally results show the significant variability of micro effects across examined countries and the surprisingly weak effect of national variables.
