The prestige of the teaching profession in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce s tématem Prestiž učitelů v České republice se zabývá tím, jak jsou v dnešní době vnímáni pedagogové v mateřských, základních a středních školách. Pojednává o jejich postavení ve společnosti i o tom, zda někteří lidí lépe vnímají učitele na vyšších stupních škol než ty, kteří učí například na základních školách nebo v mateřské škole. Teoretická část popisuje i práci učitele v minulosti, zabývá se tím, co to vlastně prestiž je a jak je vnímána. Informuje také o tom, jaké jsou na učitele kladeny nároky, jaké jsou požadavky na budoucí učitele a také jaká je jejich motivace. Součástí teoretické části práce jsou výzkumy, které se prestiží povolání již zabývaly, a to jak starší výzkumy, tak ty z posledních let. Cílem praktické části je zjistit, jak rodiče dětí ve školách vnímají práci jejich učitelů, jestli je pro ně povolání učitele prestiží, a co pro ně slovo prestiž vlastně znamená. Popisuje také vztah učitelů samotných ke své profesi a zabývá se jejich spokojeností v jejich povolání.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis, named “Prestige of the teaching profession in the Czech Republic”, deals with the way teachers at kindergartens, elementary schools and secondary schools are perceived these days. It examines their social status as well as the question whether teachers in higher education are perceived better than teachers at elementary schools or kindergartens. The theoretical part of the thesis examines the role of the teacher in the past and describes the term “prestige”, together with its perceived meaning. It also deals with the requirements placed on teachers both nowadays and in the future, as well as examining the teachers’ motivation. In this part of the thesis, both past and contemporary research dealing with the issue of prestige is analyzed. The research part of the thesis explores the attitudes of the parents of schoolchildren towards their teachers. It examines whether they consider the teacher’s job prestigious and what prestige means to them. The research also explores the teachers’ attitudes towards their profession and the satisfaction they get from it.
