Analysis of IT services of Masaryk University from their owners‘ perspective

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje analýze IT služeb, které jsou poskytovány a užívány na Masarykově univerzitě. Zabývá se analýzou těchto služeb z hlediska jejich vyspělosti a role, kterou ve kvalitě služeb sehrávají jejich poskytovatelé, konkrétně vlastníci služeb. Práce v úvodní části představuje Ústav výpočetní techniky a portfolio IT služeb Masarykovy univerzity. Nabízí zde také rychlý přehled metodik a přístupů k řízení IT služeb (zejména ITIL) a designu služeb (s důrazem na metodu Double Diamond). Praktická část pak obsahuje kvalitativní výzkum, přesněji hloubkové rozhovory s několika vlastníky IT služeb. Předmětem rozhovorů je zkoumání pohledu na správu služeb v jejich odpovědnosti, a to skrze konkrétní aktivity a činnosti, které mají přímý vliv na kvalitu IT služeb. Výstupem práce je zhodnocení fungování IT služeb z pohledu jejich vlastníků, identifikace nedostatků z pohledu metod designu a řízení IT služeb a pojmenování příležitostí pro další rozvoj v oblasti poskytování IT služeb na Masarykově univerzitě.

Abstract:

The central theme of this thesis is an analysis of IT services that are provided and used at Masaryk University. It focuses on the analysis of IT services in terms of their maturity and the role that their providers (specifically service owners) play in the quality of services. The first part of the work introduces the Department of Computer Science and the portfolio of IT services of Masaryk University. It also offers a quick overview of methodologies and approaches to the management of IT services (especially ITIL) and service design (with an emphasis on the Double Diamond method). The practical part of the work consists of qualitative research, specifically in-depth interviews with several owners of IT services. The subject of these interviews is to examine the perspective of service owners on the management of services under their supervision. The interviews are conducted via specific tasks and activities that have a direct impact on the quality of IT services. The output of the work is an evaluation of the IT services’ operation from the perspective of their owners, identification of shortcomings in terms of methods of service design and ITSM and identifying opportunities for further development of IT services at Masaryk University.
